Stop 'should-ing' everywhere

Are you taking your ChatGPT skillz and using them not just to write, but also to speak at events?

Conferences?

End-of-year functions?

Yes, I'm a copywriter. And, I want to help you write better copy and content.

But I also want to see you become unstoppable.

And I know that when I started pitching myself for speaking gigs, my business went to another level.

I wasn't just a writer anymore - I was a teach, an expert, and someone with a voice.

So think on this...

A couple of posts that almost went viral on LinkedIn, but still no inbound leads.

Pitch after pitch after pitch submitted but nothing’s sticking there either.

And maybe a few speaking gigs a year.

Unpaid.

Delivered by you, perfectly adequately…but all from your head. Not much from your heart. And certainly not in a way that gets a line of people forming to speak to you and get your details once you’ve come away from the podium.

And the majority of other speakers around you? All men. A sea of them.

This is it.

Or is it?

The life of the average female professional.

The most frustrating part is…

You have the talent.

You have the expertise.

You have the skills.

You have a message.

You’ve spent years learning what you know. You’ve seen what average looks like and you’re light years ahead of it.

And, in a perfect world, that should be enough to grow your voice into a more in-demand, recognized brand so that you can land more clients, make more money, and maybe even land a speaking gig (or three).

It should be enough to break through the legion of male speakers at all the conferences, events and functions you attend.

The only problem is this:

You haven’t stepped into your boldest voice yet.

Or you have, but things are starting to feel just a liiiiittle bit stale.

So, you’re stuck in brand purgatory - never moving forward. Just sitting there, waiting for something to happen.

So, let me help you. Start by understanding this:

A bold voice is a valuable, achievable, highly monetizable commodity.

So, why isn’t yours where it should be? You know you should step into your boldest voice. You should be giving back. You should be changing the world. But when it comes to actually doing it…there’s a gap. There’s a gap between wanting to and really knowing how to.

Between wanting to and having the time to learn how to.

Between wanting to and knowing deep in their soul that there are people out there who want to hear that voice.

Stop. Please. Stop should-ing.

Stop doubting that raw, untamed, goddess of a voice inside you.

Learn how to wield it.

Learn to be a woman who runs with the wolves.

Behind the Curtain

Whaddup. I'm a performer (currently in Fawlty Towers in the West End). AND I run a business. Because art and commerce can exist together. Quite successfully, in fact. If you're an audience-facing professional, and you want the tips, tricks and techniques used by theatre performers all over the world, then this is the place for you. This is where you get confident, you get charisma, and you start owning the room in a whole new way. This is Showing Up 2.0. It's a vibe.

One of the most important things I learned when I was studying voice and performance is this: If your knees are locked, your voice is locked. And it's true. When you stand in front of an audience, take notice of what your knees are doing. If they're locked - I can guarantee you that your voice will be locked too. Here's why: Locking your knees shifts your weight and can lead to shallow breathing. When this happens, it can restrict the proper use of your diaphragm for breath support. And if...

GOOD MORNING, Reader! It's been a couple of weeks! But I am back. I can't say I'm raring to go. That would be a lie and I'd never lie to you. I'm more...in tabletop position to go. Like a horse would be if it wasn't raring. I've been in South Africa for two weeks and it's been absolutely wonderful - but also pretty full-on with family and friends and commitments and dinners and mini-breaks to the bush. Now, I'm back in London, the Fawlty Towers tour has kicked off in Bromley, and I'm planning...

Networking session and pop up workshop in Wimbledon.

You can listen to this email here: We Must Have Art Apartheid.mp3 I don't have a specific piece of art for you today, Reader. I'm sorry. Rather, I have some musings on why it's so important that we HAVE art. So, I'm going to try and share that with you coherently, on a day, and at a time when I don't feel very coherent at all. I feel quite sad and overwhelmed and helpless. Here we go... I grew up during Apartheid in South Africa. It was a very dark time, the '80s. We really were on the brink...
