Two days ago, Reader, an unfortunate man (let's call him James...because that's his name) posted something unfortunate on LinkedIn. Unfortunately. He compared marketing to women's breasts. Like I said...unfortunate. LinkedIn exploded. He was reported. Women were attacked. Rage was baited. It got ugly. So, I posted something. And I had NO idea what would happen. This is part of the post: And then I wrote another post the following day. I highlighted four women on LinkedIn who inspire me with their brains, smarts, kindness, compassion and general ferocity. It ended like this: The posts took very little strategy. I banged them out in a few minutes. All they did was say something pretty loudly and boldly in my voice. BUT...take a look at those impressions. Not one of my other LinkedIn posts touches that first one. 8,264 impressions? I've never in my life. But, it has absolutely reinforced my belief that when you speak in your boldest voice, your bravest voice, people start to sit up and take notice. You don't need to be a phenomenal writer - I've written way better posts than these. What you do have to do is take a stand. Speak your mind. Speak your heart. And bring your beliefs to life. And here's the really interesting thing: they took me a few minutes to write, but that's because I have spent years getting comfortable with my voice. Learning from fierce women who have come before me and who have stood up for what they've believed in. This stuff takes years to build. And you need to know you have support. People who have your back. Who want to hear what you have to say. This is thought leadership. Thought leadership is the ultimate form of branding. It acts as a catalyst that changes your life. It means you have skin in the game - you’re showing up and delivering. Otherwise there will be consequences. Consequences too ghastly to consider. Blending in…urgh… Sounding like everyone else…ew… Not standing out…um no… When you step into your boldest voice, you step into thought leadership 2.0. You challenge your current circumstances. So you can set big, ambitious goals… … and EVOLVE into the type of person who can achieve them. Thought leadership transforms lives. But without the proper tools or confidence to step into your boldest voice, it’s hard to accept this statement as anything more than fluffy quote-card material. Since Covid, something really limiting has happened to us. We’ve all gone online - and I get it. We had to. The entire world shut down and we all had to take our businesses online so that we could survive. But now? In 2025? Online is the last place you should be trying to convert your audience into clients. The content and marketing gurus would have you think otherwise. There’s so much advice being thrown at us from over the place about how we should be creating content all the time. Posting....
