Reader Thought leadership is the ultimate form of branding. It acts as a catalyst that changes your life. It means you have skin in the game - you’re showing up and delivering. Otherwise there will be consequences. Consequences too ghastly to consider. Blending in…urgh… Sounding like everyone else…ew… Not standing out…um no… When you step into your boldest voice, you step into thought leadership 2.0. You challenge your current circumstances. So you can set big, ambitious goals… … and EVOLVE into the type of person who can achieve them. Thought leadership transforms lives. But without the proper tools or confidence to step into your boldest voice, it’s hard to accept this statement as anything more than fluffy quote-card material. Well, all that changes today, [FIRST NAME]. As you know, the doors to the B.O.L.D Intensive: An In-Person Transformative Retreat are open. And at $1,500 off the full price, the early bird really does catch the big, fat, bold worm in this case. It would be a gift for me and my colleagues to serve you there. Who are we? I'm a previous copy and content editor at an in-house agency, editing the words of Emirates Airlines, L'Oréal, and Adidas. She’s written content for Microsoft and General Electric. And I founded The Story Team five years ago, a business that helps solopreneurs & founders write copy that converts audiences into loyal customers and clients. I've posted thousands of times on social media, and I've edited millions of words (from blogs to emails to social posts to sales pages and Facebook ads). After I arrived in London, Covid hit, and I lost my job. So, trained as a care worker and did private care work, while I built my business, between shifts, from the back seat of my car. Within nine months I’d left the care work job and I'd gone full-time with my business - all with the copy I wrote for that business. Because content and copy is your business's biggest asset. Now, I wants to help you, the thriving professional, founder or CEO, thrive even more... by writing in a way that embraces your boldest most authentic voice, so that you stop blending in with the crowd, stand out in a way that makes people go ‘WHO IS THAT?’ and gets you out there, living your mission. Carol was named as one of Orlando's Women of the Year and has been featured in Forbes. Here's how she describes herself: I believe that as high-performing women we change the paradigm, the perception of ambitious women, by more of us actively and visibly pursuing bigger, audacious goals, raising our voices and sharing our stories about what really matters – on stages, in boardrooms, in our businesses, in the media – so others can learn from our journeys, see themselves in ours, and become leaders in their own companies and communities.
We need more women to lead because, frankly, our world won’t survive without us stepping up and taking the reins – and we need the tools, support, and confidence to do so.
I started Speaking Your Brand® precisely to provide the coaching, strategy, support, and confidence you need to take your story and your craft and turn it into a core message, whether it’s web copy or a presentation, that provides immense value to your audience and leaves them wanting more from you.
I’m a left-brained, logical, get-it-done, couldn’t-draw-a-stick-figure-to-save-my-life kind of person.
I grew up reading and learning about people who weren’t afraid to put their values on the line in order to change the world – and I wanted to be like them.
I envisioned myself as a young woman in the French Resistance during World War II, daringly helping others escape to freedom so that democracy and goodness could prevail over totalitarianism and darkness. (Quite dramatic, I know. I can picture the movie version in my head.)

Whaddup. I'm a performer (currently in Fawlty Towers in the West End). AND I run a business. Because art and commerce can exist together. Quite successfully, in fact. If you're an audience-facing professional, and you want the tips, tricks and techniques used by theatre performers all over the world, then this is the place for you. This is where you get confident, you get charisma, and you start owning the room in a whole new way. This is Showing Up 2.0. It's a vibe.
You can listen to this email here: We Must Have Art Apartheid.mp3 I don't have a specific piece of art for you today, Reader. I'm sorry. Rather, I have some musings on why it's so important that we HAVE art. So, I'm going to try and share that with you coherently, on a day, and at a time when I don't feel very coherent at all. I feel quite sad and overwhelmed and helpless. Here we go... I grew up during Apartheid in South Africa. It was a very dark time, the '80s. We really were on the brink...
👂👂👂 You can listen to this email here: We Must Have Art Jack Nicholson.mp3 --- There are three major moments in film history that I LOVE. They are POWER. The first is Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring. He turns to face the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm in Moria. And he commands, from deep within his soul..."You shall not pass!" It's probably the most iconic moment from all three of the films. The second is a simple, polysyllabic utterance from Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman, but...
I'm the adult child of an alcoholic. I posted about this on LinkedIn this morning, because something interesting is happening on that platform which I find a little worrying and bizarre. It seems everyone is a coach now - everyone can coach you out of burnout, to be more confident, to stop being a perfectionist, etc, etc. I'm seeing it a lot, and I'm kind of confounded by it. As an adult child of an alcoholic, this is what I've had to work through: Fear Anxiety Abandonment issues Compulsive...
